Heck no! Something more like a 78 or newer J20. For doing truck stuff.

But you could buy that (new one) strip off the (perfectly new) body and swap on a J truck cab and bed!!! Lol

I have zero interest in a jk based pickup. A JK can only tow like 2000 pounds for a reason.

Did you see the 401 waggy for sale on CL? It's white and rusty for $1000.00? Maybe you could add that to your hoard too?

Hmm, I'm diggin the push bar. Some protection without the honking bumper, and ability to run Marchals. Too bad I don't live in CO. We could all pool our $$ and buy it. Everyone who pooled, gets whatever they put in for.

Ok another little detail figured out, I've got an Oldsmobile V8 filler neck to cut down for a sealed oil cap that won't blow off! All I need now is a breather for one valve cover and a PCV for the other. I'm thinking that I might go with XJ stuff but if not I know I can use a fixed orifice LS pcv valve to achieve the same thing.

Wait, I thought you were working on a 401. What valve covers do you have with holes in them for PCV?

Stock valve covers and a hole saw, trying to modernize the stock pcv system so it actually does something.

Does your pcv work? I've never had an AMC V8 pcv do diddly squat to actually evacuate the crank case.

It doesn't "evacuate", it "ventilates", Positive (meaning more than ambient) crankcase ventilation. When the pressure inside the crankcase is higher than the pressure outside the crankcase, it "vents" to the aircleaner, so it can be combusted in the engine before being released to the atmosphere. Sealing the crankcase so it holds pressure would put extra forces on the seals and gaskets. If you draw a vacuum in your crankcase (evacuate), I don't think you're going to see any benefit, but might find some unexpected problems.

Seems like a fairly easy conversion, no? Get a pcv valve (or two?), And the grommets that fit them. Plumb the hose(s) back into the air cleaner??

I have a hard enough time getting the stock stuff to work. Modifying would make me curl up in a corner and mumble.

To be clear I'm not sealing the crankcase. I want an oil filler cap that is held on by more than gravity (which the Oldsmobile filler neck achieves). And I want a fixed orifice PCV valve like is used in more modern systems (4.0's, 2004 and newer ls engines, etc...). And I want the breather to be routed either through a catch can and into the aircleaner or straight into the air cleaner from the valve cover. And I want the crank case air to enter the air cleaner behind the filter rather than blowing all over the front of it oiling it up unnecessarily. That way even if it passes a little oil it doesn't make my engine look as grimy and nasty.

A fixed orifice PCV allows more flow at idle, the inverse of the old school pcv. So the crank case actually gets evacuated instead of blowing out the vent at idle. A fixed orifice PCV valve can also allow for more ventilation at WOT if it's hooked up in such a way as to see vacuum from the carb venturis (kind of like a vacuum secondary). It uses the small diameter of the orifice to prevent backfires from igniting crank case gasses rather than a spring loaded check valve.
