Was able to relocate the shifter by removing the linkages and sliding the shifter assy. Down the mounting tube. I had to cut and drive out the tube to get the shifter off. It was not necessary to tap the new holes for mounting on the tube but they did need to be chamfered.

Didn't do much this weekend but I started to make a bracket for the slave cylinder.
Still need to cut a large hole to clear the cylinder in the mount and weld the tube to the brackets.
So far I just cut, drilled and tapped the plates.

Got the cylinder mounted but having clearance issues with power assist valve off pitman. I think I'm gonna run Saginaw to solve but in mean time I'm eliminating assist.

Picked up some Dana 44 axles, the front needs some work to match the rear but it should be doable. Gonna try and get the om617 in this weekend. At least to locate motor mount brackets on the frame... hopefully.

Just got off the phone after having a great conversation with Rocky from rocklaurencevintageautoparts.com.
THANK YOU ROCKY FOR THE TIME YOU TOOK TO SPEAK WITH ME.
He helped me solve a lot of problems I'm having concerning clearance issues with my build.
I had looked into his website after seeing a thread were someone had installed a
Rock Laurence fssr kit in their later fsj. Seemed like a good idea so I called him up to see if his kit was compatible with my early fsj.
"Not likely a bolt on solution" due to my 2" wide springs, however I asked him if he had the time to talk with me about the clearance issues I'm having with my build and he stated that an fssr is a good option to get clearance. So I asked him about pinion angles and drive shaft slip yoke length and he stated that I would likely need a longer slip slip yoke shaft which got me thinking I had recently acquired a set of Chevy axles which came with some other parts some of those parts being slip yoke shaft a lot of these parts I hadn't even really looked at as I had only got them with purchase of the Dana 44 I was interested in. so I decided to take a look at the parts I had acquired and lo and behold was the perfect shaft it's solved two issues for me one being the Dana 20 transfer case that I recently installed to do this build to being the future plans of doing and fssr. I've kind of gone a little crazy as far as my budget is concerned on this build but all in all it seems everything is compatible with the exception of the front Dana 44 which will require narrowing as well as some other small clearance issues my steering clearance issues have also been somewhat alleviated by the fact that when I separately purchased a Dana 44 rear end I had managed to acquire a Saginaw steering box. It seems I have haphazardly fallen into the right parts, one issue I was having with the Dana 20 was the front output flange has bolts sticking through from behind this seemed odd to me and I wasn't exactly sure why they were there
(Did not come with driveshafts) but I had just assumed that I would need to buy some caps to put on to enable me to use my front drive shaft it seems I was wrong and I infact needed a dual cardan type CV shaft which I now have.
I'm sure I would have figured this out in time but the conversation that I had with Rocky really helped me TimeWise considering the more time I'd spent running around in my own head thinking of what I needed to do to gain clearance for this build led me to considering doing High steer on a 44 which I would still have to narrow and turn as well as combat spring over versus spring under on my 27 so for now my plan is to keep the 27 and do and fssr to gain clearance required by the om617 oil pan.
At least for now until time and money allow me to build the 44's to suit my wagoneer.

The front Dana 20 output, see the bolts...
Looks like someone switched the bolts for studs on the output. Not a bad idea but it seems more common to just drill them out and use "U-bolt" style straps to hold the driveshaft on.

Had to move the heater and the starter solenoid off the firewall to get the motor in, but I will be able to keep the Mercedes oil filter housing, a plus since this feeds the oil cooler and pressure guage, and turbo feed too I think.

With the motor in (temporarily) I was able to c clamp the motor mounts to the frame.
They should be able to be bolted with shock mounts sandwiching the frame in between. With the mount in position I used transfer punch through the frame shock mounts to locate mounting holes on the engine mount frame bracket.

The motor is in, looks to have good amount of room shouldnt have to fool with to much else other than suspension. An fssr is next on the list as well as sorting out plumbing, will likely do the driver side floor pan while the tank is out. might need a different tank but I've got a 10 gal. Fuel cell that never got used from a stagnant build (83 starion).
I will probably make my own fssr front spring mount to locate the shackle in the rear.

Here's why it will be necessary.

Don't think I will be able to take speedbumps with that limited clearance let alone some tight trails.

Can anyone recommend a good rear spring for an early wagoneer, mine are a little flat even with 2.5" blocks it sits low, don't think I'll be able to run 31's as is.

Here a good shot before I blocked the rear. This was just after I installed the Rubicon express 1430 springs in front.
