Shackle reversal is a no go until I do a 44 swap up front. Too many things to deal with to do it right, simply changing spring perches to get an appropriate pinion angle I think would negatively affect caster.

Very nice! Which column are you using? Looks like the same or similar Borgeson shaft I used in my 68. I like it, good quality and a major improvement over stock. I was a little leery of just a couple set screws at either end to hold it in place but plenty of red loctite and I haven't had any issues.

Aftermarket Chevy style tilt column 28" long, 1"x1" DD u joint at column, 1"x.75" DD telescopic slip shaft, .75"DDx13/16" 36 spline u joint at steering gear box. 15" grant classic oak riveted wheel, and a free dpa of a wrangler.

All in all I think I spent about $400.

Got the column mocked up and trimmed the slip shaft. Still need to hard mount column and notch motor mount. Didn't have much time this weekend being easter and all ..

Filed the dpa to fit, waiting on 11/16 taps to do an adjuster sleeve. Notched the motor mount.
Steering is mostly all set up, still need to adjust and lock tight everything down. Got the front of the body back on... by myself with my 1 year old daughter in one arm. That was fun.

The steering looks good, major improvement over stock. I remember putting the hood back on by myself, what a pain to lift high enough (mine sits on 35s), get the bolts lined up, tighten them while holding the hood up. But I didn't have a small child in one arm so good on you sir ;)

Been trying to figure out how to kill the om617 with the ignition key off - to do so vacuum needs to be supplied from the vacuum pump to the fuel injection pump, so far this is what I have come up with. Its a VSV, I don't like that it stays engaged with key on cause if it fails will kill the engine, but it'll do for now.
Mercedes has a mechanical version integrated to "ignition" key cylinder that will open and supply vacuum when key is turned to off position.
The electronic version I'm using is normally open and closes when voltage is supplied.

Got my "coffin" tank out, and hacked up the floor. Started making a new floor. Need to plumb a return line to the tank.
Anybody got ideas?

So I think I'm gonna run a return line to my filler hose, like so...
3/8 npt bung welded to filler neck o.d. pipe between filler hoses.

Subscribed! This has been one heck of a read. I am considering a diesel swap and you really have me thinking about a 617 now. Looking good! Can't wait to see more. :-bd

Been working on the floor, can't load pics:(
New phone, need a work around.
It's funny too, the main reason I got a new one is cause the old one has a really bad camera lens which shows lots of dark spots. The new one takes great pictures but won't let me upload them.

Dang, that's sweet! Is it from Flaming River, or some other place?

44bz, what did you use for your column?

Mine is a flaming river tilt column and borgeson collapsible shaft with ujoints at both ends. I like it much better than the stock setup.

I don't know what brands mine are, copies of counterfeit's I'm sure. The diameter of the column is a bit on the small side, will have to sleeve it to fit the floor and dash mounting areas. If I ever figure out how to post pictures I'll do an update to the steering .

Right now been doing the drivers floor..
Almost done, then I should be able to get moving on all the loose ends.
Hoping to be driving soon.
