Rear Shoulder Belts for GW

Post by cliff54 »

Looking to replace my DD Tahoe with a GW. My real concern is for my grandkids who frequently occupy the back seat. The Tahoe has a well designed 3-pt system that secures them well and the stock GW lap belts will not secure their upper body and they could strike the seat back even in a low-speed impact.

Wagonmaster says that they install shoulder belts in their refurb GW's upon request. Are these available to the public through another vendor?

There have been several discussions on the mother board about this. the Nuts are in place in the roof just above the side windows. Check with Bjs, they might have them.

You could also contact Wagonmaster and see if he'll sell the kit by itself.

I used seatbelts from my Eagle's front seat for the '83 Cherokee I had. I had to drill and insert nuts (hardware store had them for concrete anchors)

I bought my replacements at this site, I am pleased.

They have a walk through to help you get the proper belts on the page above.

Hope this helps.

The captive nuts were even there on my '70 body, like Jaber mentioned up above the rear side windows.
I used belts from the front of a mid '70's Buick I had parted out.

I had the same issue with my kids and when I had the headliner out I saw the capture nuts for rear shoulder belts. I was able to get some from ZM Jeeps and they matched perfectly. Kind of pricey but worth it for kids safety. I mounted the retractor to the fender and the swivel was on teh pillar and the end in the stock location. Note - don't mess with the center shoulder harness, you can't fold your seat forward with it installed.

See my sig link for information on my rear seat belt install. Note that is is for COSMETIC purposes only. It is not a "how to".

its cake to install the kit, just make sure you have a good torx bit if you plan to replace the female ends to.
