Track bar question

Post by lobie »

Getting ready to start my track bar on my chief. The front axle is a 2006 ford d60 with radius arms. I know the track bar and steering drag link need to be parallel (same angle) to prevent bump steer. The question is, what is the best to use for rod ends?

1. Bushings
2. Rod end
3. Johnny joints (using them on the radius arms)

Personally I like the johnny joints. Used them on my 4 link buggy with good success.

They have there places and think that I may be able to get away with bushings for cheaper.

Thoughts.........

Well, I am a bit mixed on this. My JK has rubber bushings from the factory, and my aftermarket one also has rubber bushings. These work great for a while, but if the rubber wears out at all, its death wobble city. I think it really comes down to the quality of the rubber or poly used. They do absorb more vibrations though.

I think a good quality johnny joint could work well. My Tera Flex control arms have "flex joints" which are very similar to johnny joints, and are fully rebuildable. I think they would work fine for a trac-bar (although in a much smaller format).

I have seen guys use heim joints, and some after market tracbars use a heim joint on one end. But if these wear at all, then again its death wobble city. There is no rubber to kind of absorb some of the vibrations and the like.

So I say go with a GOOD rubber bushing, or a good quality johnny joint.

Thanks

I have some poly bushings laying around so I think I'll try them. Make one end fixed and the other adjustable.
