Talk me off the ledge!!!! (Warning graphic cancer content)

Post by rjubber »

So I need some advice to persuade me out of setting fire to my 79 Waggy and starting over!

I knew that the floor pans needed done correctly when I got it i just didn't know how bad some of the support structure was going to be.

Here is the passenger side... the floor support structure was in good shape just rusted a bit. The original floors were left in under new pans from BJ's. the new pans were screwed down with 2" roofing screws :banghead:

So on to the drivers side! Before removal of new pans....

Love the fabrication work here!!!!

Then I pulled the "Cover Pans" .... to find....

I am considering calling the insurance agent and putting a $500 deductible full coverage policy on this sucker and then there being a "gas can accident" in the near future.

I am at a loss any help or ideas would be helpful and amazing!

BTW I am joking about the insurance fraud...Im not smart enough not to get caught!

The good news is that getting the old pan out so you can put in new floor pans should be easy, since the old pans are so far gone! You can replace the floor pans pertty easily with a good grinder and a MIG welder. I replace mine and it was the first time I'd ever used a MIG. Go for it!

Yes the good news is that popping the spot welds is very easy. The bad news is that i have to figure out a way to replace the floor/rocker supports. And with that the seat mounting locations need to be replaced.

I know you dont wanna hear this, but out here, I'd be looking for another body... :banghead:

Good luck with it...

You might watch the part-outs and see if one of the guys will cut out what you need and send it to ya.

I am starting to lean that way...I am not afraid of the fab work, just don't want to throw $$$ and time at a loosing battle.

well it has been nearly a month of trying to find an easy step by step manual on how to fix my problem...I can't find one!

So I went at it the old fashion way...Sawsall, grinder, and welder!

Before the cutting...

After the cutting!

After all the easy work was done!

Image

I think it should hold for the next 30 years...

The rocker supports are welded to this...

The rear tire is off the ground in this picture and both doors open and close!

I have more detailed step by step pictures if anyone is interested I will post them as well.

Looks good to me.
I replaced my floor pans back in 2003 and cut my rockers out in 2010 replacing them with 2"x6" tube..
NOt quite as bad as your pic's but close, you could put your fingers through the rockers back then.

I was looking at doing the same to ours, but it's a long span from the frame.

I did it to our unibody though..
