Does anyone here know if there a way to adapt the early style wheel to the later GM splined column? I currently have a Flaming river column that uses GM splines and a 70s steering wheel on it but it just doesn't look correct to me against the early steel dash. I can live with it but I would rather not if there is a way to adapt it
I wonder if you could get an adapter from someone like Grant (http://www.grantproducts.com)? Do you know the size of the holes on both wheels? Maybe you could have a brass bushing made up to take up the difference (assuming the earlier wheel has a larger opening)? Or have the whole in the older wheel machined to match the later shaft, if it's a smaller opening. Not sure how much that option would cost.

Years back when I installed the column I tried to install my wheel and it wouldn't fit. I used a cheap Grant until I found a 70s FSJ wheel with the GM pattern. IIRC the original wheel was a smaller hole. I don't remember the spline count. I DO know that early 60s GM trucks had a wheel very similar to early FSJ. I can't find the spline count for the life of me on the web tho

I've seen several guys cut out center and weld in one that fits.
To adapt an original wheel to an aftermarket or newer column.
Ugh that sounds like work lol
Actually been doing some homework and found 61-66 C10 wheels will fit later GM columns. So now it boils down to finding one cheap to test this theory. If it fits, it will be a damn near identical replacement and hopefully a FSJ horn button would fit it. It is close enough the untrained eye would not notice it isn't original and would work with the aftermarket columns. I may actually be onto something here..
