HOOD release for later grill?

Post by Fast79Chief »

If you put an 81 to 84 Grill on a 79 Chief, what do you have to do to the latch mechanism to be able to open your hood?
Thanks.

You would have to change hood release bar to 81-84 .1979 would not work. I have a 1982 WAGONEER parts rig..

Is it an 'inside the cabin' release?
Thanks.

I put a muscle grill on my 80 and instead of installing a in cab release I drilled a hole in the hood bar paddle and made a little t shaped rod that I stick in the grill to open it. Have been meaning to make something permanent that attaches to the grill and is spring loaded but the handle works so good I haven't bothered.

My 80 was a outside release through the pig nose grille.

Can you post a pic of the 'Tbar handle' that you made. I'd like to try and duplicate it. Thanks.

Used the top of the thing my wife hung flags on beside the road. I have a picture of one but you will have to imagine it cut down with a piece of pipe for a handle....ImageImage
