Thought I would reach out to other crazy folks. Just purchased a 73 J2000 and thought I would make some upgrades. Wanted to hear some opinions/options. Runs great and does drive fine. Was thinking about axles and suspension replacement. Maybe transmission. Thoughts? Direction? Was leaning towards a more off-road style.
Pretty tough (and open ended) question. My truck is going to be a 4.6L stroker with an NV3550/NP241DLD, D44HD/D60 axles, and basically stock suspension. I also use my truck pretty much exclusively on road and for "truck duties," ie: hardware store runs.
How wild do you want to get? What's your budget? Your actual usage goal? Planning to trailer it to the trail? Your mechanical competency level? Are you doing the work yourself or paying someone? Do you want modern amenities or do you prefer the older stuff?
We don't really have enough info to give you many suggestions.
