correct pushrods and where to get them?

Post by boyce1911 »

I acquired a 76 Cherokee with a newly rebuilt 4.2. Previous owner built engine and installed 4.0 head, engine has less than 30 minutes run time. I believe he installed the wrong(to short) pushrods. I have used a pushrod length tool to get a measurement and believe hesco sells what I need but am unsure. They have a 9.639" set that will give me a preload range from .024-.046". That falls between the .02 and .06 comp cams suggests but I wasn't expecting to get different measurements between the pushrods, is it normal to have different measurements? am I ok to have different preload amounts? Do I need to buy a different length pushrod for each lifter?

No, get one length, use shims if needed.
They should all be pretty close unless something weird was done w/head.
