Wrong year bed questions..

Post by Phils67 »

Im using a J10 7'bed on my 67 j2000 right now. It fits and lines up with tge exception of a few mounts i need to finish relocating, the middle 4 line up, front 2 and rear 2 do not. But thats here nor there. My question is has anyone converted the tailgate to a chain style and changed from the slotted tail lights to the round style? I want it to look more like the correct year bed for my truck. Any pics of someone doing this conversion?

I have seen the lights changed to round on a newer bed except the chain latches were not added. This was years ago. The round lights were installed lower on the panel. Not sure why. The 73 and up beds have slightly wider tailgate which makes the end caps where the tail lights mount slightly narrower.

You might be thinking of mine Flint. I used standard utility truck/trailer tail lights (round) and moved them further down to put them on the widest part of the bed corner. Still had to massage the flange a bit.

Since the drivers side of the bed is a prolonged work in progress, I haven't done any paint. BUT, after switching the tail lights the kids in the neighborhood started calling my truck "The Terminator", haha!

When you were doing this mod, did you consider doing 4" rubber mounted? I just measured mine and it looks like i could maybe do the rubber mounted style higher and another 4" clear pair for reverse lights lower like where you did the tails.
