FI ford 300 (4.9) in Cherokee?

Post by Zorm »

Ok, still have this 4.6 stroker in my Jeep, was looking to toss the OBDI system and put in a OBDII system due to better tunablity, still not fired off from rebuild.

Well, I have been tossing the idea of a 351W then I found the FI 300 out of a 92 F150 with all the wiring and ECU for a heck of a price, I just need to pull.

Right now I have the T176 and know I can get a ford bell housing to bolt right up to it for the 300. I have a nv3550 that I can / might use also.

So thoughts on how hard / easy would the 300 be? Heck, its already a 4.9, maybe I can find some bolt on performance (or use the Mercedes supercharger I have)

Thoughts please

HE guides my path, forgives me when I stray and lights my life.

Run away fast. The EEC-IV system as used on the truck motors is horrible. You are much better off using the stroker.

Several people have done 300 swaps, with carbs and with EFI. I have never heard of anybody have any issues with the 300 engines in 80-90's trucks. Lot of them out there with a lot of miles. Was the truck a manual from the factory? If not, you will probably have to convert it over to carb or find an ECU from a manual trans equipped truck.

I love my 300 in my 94 F150. They are torquey, extremely durable engines. They are not fast. At all. If you are wanting go for more power, you will hate EEC-IV as previously stated. If I was putting a 300 in my wag I'd run an offenhouser intake with FiTech or similar efi. But then again, if I had a jeep stroker I'd probably just run that :-bd

*1994 F150 "Moms Truck" my pride and joy. Passed down from mom and grandpa, I miss you both.
*1976 F100 "UGLY" I'll finish it... one day... *UPDATE- negative, ghost rider. It has died so others may live.*
