Motor mount question

Post by ironracer79 »

New member here, working on a 66 J3600 I bought a couple of years ago.

Originally it had a 232 but at some point someone put a 258 from an IH in it, along with home made engine mount brackets that weren't spaced correctly and a whole lot of messy mods as a result.
Do I need to look for original engine brackets or will later 258 or 4.0 brackets and mounts fit? I'm not finding much info on pre-72 trucks...
This is what it should look like:

The engine side mounts look the same from the pics as the stock 258 mounts, thought it's a bit hard to be 100%. The frame horns look different, but not sure if that will really matter or not. If you want to take some measurements, I can measure the frame width at the front on my '83 for you to compare. I'm pretty sure the front of the frame did not change that much, but I could be mistaken. Some of the holes may not line up, but that's pretty easy to address.
