i still have not made a decision on what route im gonna take. i am looking at these knuckles that will cost me a case of beer. but the arms for this high steer crap is 150 bucks plus im gonna need new drag ling and tie rod??? some one please school me on this topic. i have read a lot and searched. i have a general idea but dont have a good idea of what this is gonna cost me. and what all i need.

'77 could be a D44, or a 10 bolt. '77 was the first year for them. But regardless, 10 Bolt knuckles and D44 knuckles swap.

You will need the passenger side knuckle to be machined, drilled, and tapped. The driver side will be already.

If going full high steer, you should be able to use your stock tie rod and drag link depending on what arms you go with. If going cross over, then you just need a new drag link.

I would suggest that you scrap the stock axles and bolt in the 77 GM axle. Yes, it will literally 'bolt in'. Then grab a rear 14 bolt FF axle.

This will give much better strength and reliability and will be much easier in the long run.

Blake, they will not bolt in. Well, they will, but his front driveshaft is on the wrong side. 77 GM is pass drop, 82 FSJ is driver drop. The knuckles are the same, though.

Plus isn't the 10 bolt weaker than a 44? Or his jeep axle not a 44?

my axle is a 44 and it is driver drop. the 10 bolt front is not bad. the ring and pinion gear is smaller. (and its passenger drop) the rear 10 bolts have c clips. junk IMO. im looking at the price on these high steer arms and wow..... these things are more expensive than i thought.......

Front 10 bolts are nearly identical to old style front D44's. They both use 8.5" r&p's, shafts are very similar, 10 bolt pinion is a bit larger. U-Joints and outer shafts are the same.

Edit - I had a whole post here as I'm very passionate AGAINST the stock SUA setup.

But then I realized that not everyone is ready for SOA.

So my words are;

Good luck! :-bd

One way or another, we help people make choices and it is not always up to us to say if it is a bad choice or not. ;)

Thanks. :). I like the soa rigs. They are sweet. But looking at fullsizjeep rig with 3.73 gears and 33s takin on trails. I started to think more budget, and simple. I just wanna have fun In this thing and go mudding and trail blazing, maybe some mild rocks but nothing crazy. I also do not wanna be working on this thing and not playing for that long also. If I went soa this thing would not be ready for months.

Only due to the price of parts. I put http://OTTindustries.com arms on mine with Chev knuckles. I had to get the passenger's side knuckle drilled (Chev driver's side are already drilled) but I also found where you can buy new flat tops already drilled.

They want $225 per knuckle.
I've never gotten more than $125 for a pair of flat tops and I've never paid more than $60 per side for mill, drill and tap.

Plus shipping back and forth (shipping one way with BJs) and they are NEW. No junkyard sniffing, guessing they aren't worn out where the balljoint sits, aren't bent/cracked, etc. Plus paying someone (if you don't have the tools) to press out and install the new ball joints.
