MSD Streetfire engine run-on

Post by dodgerammit »

Installed the streetfire today. Cranks beautifully. Works great. One tiny problem...... :P

So, anyone else experienced this?

One note: I used the old coil+ wire for my switched 12 volt. This may be it. Where have you tapped for your switched 12volt source?

Thanks :-bd

It's in the instructions, you need to install that diode that came with it. :P

The instructions are on MSDs website if you got it used.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Wasn't sure if AMCs required the diode or not.

Where is the regulator? I'm not seeing it.

Okay, so I need to tie in the diode on the smaller of the 2 wires on the alternator plug.

Is this the exciter wire?

If so, isn't it made of a material that doesn't solder well?

Okay, to keep from effing something up on the side of caution, I simply made a basic harness extension for the alternator.

I soldered the diode (line toward alternator) between two sections of 14 gauge and installed a female spade on the alternator side and male spade on the plug side of the extension.

Next, I made another extension (minus the diode) the same length and orientation as the first.

Slipped heat shrink tubing over the entire length of the diode one, and over the male spade area of the other.

Plugged them into the alternator, and attached the plug to the extension.

voila! Cranks, runs, shuts down!
