Which front brake lines w/4" lift?

Post by tedlovesjeeps71 »

So when I put the 4" lift on the wife's waggy and did all the brake work I installed some longer brake lines. The stock ones fit but didn't look like they'd be quite long enough should the axle fully flex. I had some longer ones in storage from who-knows-what and put them on. They are long... As in Too long! Had to zip tie them to the shocks as a short term fix to keep them from rubbing both tires.
So what are a good length/ vehicle to grab new lines to replace these with??

Before I decided to go that route I was putting together a list based on what others said with using motor home lines. Never got to the point of going into the store to confirm the fittings were correct.

Under where TGW has a set listed for the skyjacker kit but it's for 2-5"s of lift!?! From the pic it looks almost as long as what I have already which is too much. And at over $100 I don't feel like experimenting.

Have you flexed your waggy out yet to see if they are indeed too long? The ones on my truck look really long on flat ground, but when flexed, they are just right.

Also, I know you said temporary, but zip tying a brake line to something is a very bad idea. its best to loosen them, and then rotate them so they dont touch anything. Then tighten them down.

No, haven't flexed it but I'm not kidding when I say these are LONG! I bet each hose is 20-24"s long? I probably had em from my YJ or CJ which had more lift and a lot more flex.
I agree on the zip tie being bad. Just a temp fix until I find lines that work and I dig back into the brakes again. Nobody seems to have a proportioning valve local so I'm gonna have to ponder that. I did grab a new fan clutch. Will try and get it on tomorrow if I can't do not in class today.

Why do you need a new proportioning valve?

And my memory is a bit rough here, but i think the ones on my J10 for a 6" lift are 21" long. But I put them on in 2007, so I may be wrong :)

Been going back and forth on the prop valve. Mine has gotten stuck and given the fact that the Jeep say 10 years with no fluid movement as well as the condition of the fluid I got out of it... It won't surprise me if the valve is corroded inside. I'll try and take it apart and inspect/clean it and hopefully that does the trick. I just don't want to find its shot out and Then go looking for a replacement.

Gotta love a Jeep Girl! She saw pics of it, almost had a fit to go get it then! Gotta try for the weekend, hope we can go then.
I'll send you pics, see what @tedlovesjeeps71 thinks about her!

I used the ones from BJ's. stainless with a clear coating. worked well with my bds 4" lift.
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.
