Power window install 2/60 AC

Post by memo43 »

Well now that summer is almost here, I took the plunge and ordered a set of universal power window kits from ez wiring.
I have used the kit in my previous hot rods and what not.
Kits are universal so some fabing and cursing is required, the kit comes with everything needed, wiring switches motors etc etc.
after looking through the forum it seems not many people do a conversion, although I have seen Night Glide post about his cool switches for his windows.
I'm not gona bore anyone about removing the stock regulators so Ill post some of the pics I managed to remember to take
unboxing the kit is a worm style motor vice the scissor style.

mocking system and deciding where to cut,

only hole I had to drill was 1/2' above the window stop, (only because I cut the arm to short :banghead: :banghead: )

system mocked up, I had to use a fender washer where the armrest hole is, I will have to figure something out for it later

all back together for now

the hardest part was routing all the wires and connectors, an breaking all the plastic clips. that hold the panel on.
I used 1/2 and 3/4" steel spacers 1/20-28 bolts, the kit came with some but to short an it pulls the glass to close and destroyed my tint
while I was doing the conversion I finally replaced the window strip I ordered from BJ's a few months back.
I may redo the door panels and add some insulation on the doors.

I will add more pictures and comments when I do the driver door
so for now the driver door is manual and passenger is power.

Cool. Quite a few of us may be headed that route when the plastic break-prone window tracks become NLA some day.

Power windows are definitely on my list but I got sidetracked with a drivetrain swap.

I did the conversion out of necessity, after having thenough driver side handle snap during a cold spell when trying to roll the window down. That an the regulator shaft seemed to be gearing ready to tap out.
The vice grip option wasn't all the great.
Plus one more thing to cross out on the list of things to do

Got a link to night glides switches? Peaking my curiosity! Thank you for the install thread, this is on my list as well. I had planned on using the window cranks as window switches, can't remember who makes it now. Also want to add the auto up and down modules :)

Autoloc is the brand I was trying to think of. I assume it is local to each side. Unless maybe there is a switch to control the passenger window. Wouldn't be hard to wire up I'm sure. They also sell the auto up and down modules. As well as a ton of other electronics that make my inner nerd go crazy!

You don't have control of both Windows. Some guys add a toggle switch under dash somewhere that they can flick and then drivers switch will control passenger.
I heard the autoloc ones are not that great. I got mine from Watson's streetworks. They are made by Carolina customs.....in USA
Thanks

I will have to check them out. I picture the knob at the end of the handle being replaced with a selector switch that looks like the knob still. Would be a pretty slick option I think.
