I'm new to an FSJ and was wondering what I could do to give me a little more room when driving. I am 6'2 and my thighs are tight to the steering wheel. It has some different seats out of a late model truck not sure what it's out of, but I think I would need a tilt column. Do they make tilt column for a 4 speed?

The column comes out of your J10 in like 20 minutes. Remove trim ring, remove two bolts under dash, unplug electrical connectors, unbolt trim at firewall, decouple from steering shaft connector in engine bay walla! Steering column out.

So in that case would you need to get a tilt column out of a Full Size Jeep?

I'd assume that a jeep vs a Chevy truck would have different length dimensions, so I know it would be a lot easier if you stuck with a jeep column. Where are you located? I'm going to a salvage yard tomorrow that has like 20 of them.

Where from? I grew up in northern Illinois but spent a lot of my childhood in Knox County.
Tilt columns for the manual FSJs are a little more difficult to find. Usually found in the early '80s Laredos. I've been searching for a very long time without much luck, though.

I used the XJ column. It is a little shorter, which pulls the wheel a little closer to the dash. It is also tilt. All XJ's are floor-shift, so that helps. One thing to note is that the xj column for automatics has a cable that runs to the shifter to insure it is in park before the key turns to start. It is easy enough it remove the cable.
I am not sure of difference to the 77, but it was plug and play for signal/wiper/high beam on the 88. Maybe you can move your high beam from the floor to the column at the same time..
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.

That's one of the things I like best about my CJ-7.
So after I've spent several days modifying my '84 column to remove the auto shifter guts and remount the shroud I find out an XJ column will work.
