If you haven't done this...

Post by ScottsMojo »

Do! I've been running these things in various rigs for years and if your tires go "whomp whomp whomp whomp" as you are driving down the road you should take a look...

DynaBeads, balance beads, etc. I run these in all my bikes and I can tell you that they work, smooth as silk over 160mph. :fsj:

I've never ran actual dyna beads....

...But I have ran AirSoft BB's and Golf Balls in a TJ that had horrible death wobble. The tire store guys thought I was crazy! This was on a locked TJ with 33" retreads that I bought cheap. It had horrible death wobble and the golf balls/AirSoft BB's really did help the death wobble. But it didn't cure it. Got some new 33" BFG mudders - problem solved.

If you run em in a set of tires from new, they are the shizzle. I cannot speak about running them in less than new tires.

I put a set of Grabbers on last week. Balanced by the "pro" at the local tire shop. Vibrated like heck @ 45+.

Those wheels are lug centric, rather than hub centric. I would be willing to bet a lot of your vibration is due to that. My JK always had a vibration until I got some hub centric rings to center the wheels up. It made a night and day difference.

I run antifreeze. An old rancher taught me this. Works the same as the BB's.

I have never thought about that, thanks for the insight. There only seems to be one whompy wheel assy, but regardless I have had good luck with the beads in the past and it certainly saves the bother of rebalancing down the road.

I think I remember you mentioning this in the past. I might have to give that a shot next time! :fsj:

I have no experience with antifreeze but I'm sure Jaber can relay his experience. If you go here, where I got my beads http://www.checkeredflagtires.com/suvs.htm this chart outlines where you might start for weight in oz (not volume) for each tire. I would consider that a starting point and add more if you don't get rid of the imbalance.

That chart is a great starting point. Too much will hop just like not enough.
I prefer straight AF, but I dont have a problem running old 50/50 mix I drain out of a car. Out here in the country, it gives me a way to recycle it. None of the parts houses will take it. Your freeze temp will dictate what kind of mix you want. We see single digits in the worst part of our cold, but no lower.

Hope this helps...

Bet your tire guy is not very happy when he has to pull the tire off though ;)

Yup. I switched to beads after seeing how poorly Centramatic balancers worked on my rig. I'll run beads in my Cherokee when I get the tires for it.
Having seller's regret.
