Well, I am still without a job, I am still frustrated, depressed, and irritable.

But here are things I have done to occupy time.

Front bumper. I am trying to get good pics, but the sun has had other ideas. I also moved my air chuck to the bumper. The bumper is made from mostly 1/4" aluminum plate. The winch plate is a modded one for a TJ. Cheap a$$ winch. The tow hooks are F250 rear axle U-bolts welded to steel plate and bolted to the bumper. Don't know why the welds bubbled.





Aluminum rocker guards. I found some interesting aluminum extrusions so they wouldn't be either square or round. I bolted them to the frame. Way back when when I had the bare frame, I welded on mounts and threaded holes.





Spare tire carrier made from scrap I had lying around.




I also put power mirrors on. Mirrors are from a Grand Wag and the switch is from a Mustang. The plate covers the hole from the original joystick mirror control thingy.

Love seeing stuff made of aluminum. Turned out good!

Bubbles like that in the weld usually means you got some contamination, either through dirty material or a lack of shrouding gas (or both). It compromises the integrity of the weld. It might be good enough to hold in the long term. But it wouldn't hurt to go back at some point and re-weld them. I'd hate to see it let go when you needed it the most.

I say the bumper looks REALLY good Don! I love the way it hugs the fascia and wraps around the sides to protect the flares.

And the rails not only look good, they're more functional than your average tube sliders.

Had the right gas, and it was turned on. I remembered this time. There are welds on both sides. It is just the side you can see that bubbled. Cleaned the metal before welding also

I fought that with my welder once. There was just enough air movement to blow the gas away from the weld.
Nice looking bumper and mods. The tow hook idea is very clever.
What year is your Cherokee?

Looks great. I love it. I would have never guessed the bumper was aluminum until you said something.

When I was welding the bumper I was outside because it was nice out and yeah, had problems with the wind blowing away the shielding gas. Moved welding operations to inside the garage and just had to sweat. These hooks were welded inside.

When I was making the bumper, I was trying to figure out what to do for hooks. Pre made ones are pricey. I was looking at my minor Ubolt pile thinking they could work, but they are a bit small. I went to a local 4wd store (first time I had been to one in over a decade) and while looking around they had a good assortment of Ubolts and sitting in the used pile were a set of F250 ones. Nice, beefy, and squared off ends. Payed $10 for two of them.

The Cherokee is mostly a 77.

How did you mount the tire carrier? Any more pics with out the tire?

Was the mustang mirror switch a direct wire in or did you have to modify it?
