Okay, got the parts Jeep home, put a battery in it and a little gas and it busted right off! Runs pretty darn good considering it's been sitting for a couple years. Anyway here's my question. We are going to pull this engine and put it in my sons Scrambler. He has the old Iron Duke and it's surely seen it's better days. We are also going to go automatic transmission on this build. I knew I was going to have to have an adapter to adapt the Dana 300 to a turbo 400 but now I'm seeing where I'll have to adapt the tranny to the engine also. I'm talking about using a GM version tranny as opposed to a AMC version. I'm sure GM versions are more readily available and I'll have to adapt the transfer case either way. Any other information on this would be greatly appreciated!
I think finding an AMC TH400 will be cheaper in the long run than trying to adapt the GM version. But if you use the AMC version it will require you to replace the trans output shaft to mate with the Dana 300 if I remember correctly. I've got a couple AMC TH400's that I would let go if you need one.
I forgot they used 999 and not 727 with the Dana 300s. Some guys grind the edge of the 727 pan to clear the driveshaft. Another option is a 727/Dana 20 setup from an IH (and if you find one from a 6 cyl, the motor was already AMC so it bolts directly to AMC V8)
Edit for Missing info: Dodge NP208 and AMC 727 are a good match for RH drop vehicles. (I have one in my for sale collection that was going to go into my '73 J4000 before I rolled it)

Possibly found a 999 today. Will find out for sure in the morning. I don't know a thing about this transmission but if it's easy direct bolt in on both ends I'm down!!
