I am new to FSJ. I recently purchased a 1978 J10 and am having trouble with the fuel filler. further investigation shows that the tank s a side fill/vent and the vent hose is kinked as it leaves the tanks due to an existing rail. this affects my ability to put fuel in the tank as I have to use a funnel to slowly fill the tank. was wondering if this was not a stock tank and I should replace with a front fill. has anyone else had this issue? also since the hose is kinked it has an adverse effect on my engine performance. 360 with a 4 bbl. thanks. Keith
I have an '89 but basically the same problem. The hoses were so dry that they had numerous cracks and one kink in them. I purchased replacement hoses from a Wagoneer shop in Kenosha, WI and the replacement itself was really straight forward. I would recommend as it is an inexpensive fix and may very well solve your problem.
My guess is someone replaced the hoses at some point and couldn't get the correct ones at the local store. There are 3 different configurations, iirc. bjsoffroad sells each one, separately, so you can probably find the correct part there. BUT, I'd say if you can fill at normal speed and get no leaks/splashing, leave it alone.
