Thanks Redone. I'm going to change the fluid to ATF this week.REDONE wrote:Thanks Yakir!
I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it; motor oil in a t-case.
Regardless, I agree with all the others that regular old ATF is the best fluid for pretty much all New Process (NP) 2xx transfer cases.
Yeah.. that's what I've noticed.BCRAWLER wrote:Interestingly the Haynes manual suggests 10/30 for the 80&81 and ATF for 82 and newer.
Likely either a recommendation from the manufacturer to use ATF instead due to increased service life/performance or a cost decision. It wouldn't surprise me if generic ATF was cheaper than 10w-30 motor oil.yakir.tordjman wrote:Yeah.. that's what I've noticed.BCRAWLER wrote:Interestingly the Haynes manual suggests 10/30 for the 80&81 and ATF for 82 and newer.
I'm not sure if the transfer case (TC) was changed internally after 1981 or maybe the manufacturer have decided to use ATF based on knowledge collected from 1980-1981 TC.
Anyway, common knowledge suggests ATF.
