Mech fuel pump replacement - 83 wag -beginner question

Post by nlaubach »

83 wagoneer, 360. I want to pull my existing mechanical fuel pump and replace. It looks buried in there... Does anybody have any tips at how to replace the easiest way. Do I have to pull the PS pump? or is there another trick to get at it?

Go at it from underneath. Much easier can be less than a 15min job once you do it a few times

Outside of how to get to it, be sure to put some oil on the arm before installing it. Its not good to put it in dry as it can damage the cam lobe that it runs off.

I wanna say the bolts were like 3/8 and like 3/4 long. Don't remember the thread. I allways just unplugged the distributor and cranked it over a few times to prime the pump
