Help! - 78 Warn Hub disassembly question.

Post by NorthGaAire »

78 Cherokee with Warn locking hubs - Warn 198 I believe.

How do I complete the complete the disassembly? I cannot find any videos or images only for this hub.

With the hub selector in the Free position, I removed the 6 small allen head screws.

I removed the locking selector. Here is what it looks like:

There is one spring clip visible on the center shaft. I removed that spring clip.
Here is what the interior of the hub looks like after the clip is removed:

What is the next step? The center gear will slide out about 1/2" but not further with light pressure with two screw drivers. I have used a dental pick to look for other retainers, but I don't see any other clips inside like some of the other Warn hubs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards.

There is a snap ring that goes around the outside of the hub. Its pretty then and hard to see if its covered in grease. I typically use an ice pick to get it out.

At 49 seconds in this video, you can see him remove the outer snap ring:
