Going over my newly acquired 73 j4500 and just realized the windshield washer tank is missing. I don't even know where it was before it was removed by PO. TSM and parts manual are no help with photos or diagrams. Looked online for replacement parts and found zilch. Can someone send me a photo and suggestions on restoring/upgrading the windshield washer system?
If you look at the 62-73 J-series parts book at http://www.oljeep.com the parts are listed in group 22. There is no illustration, but it appears that 1973 only had the 2-speed wipers available. I presume that it's the 2-speed reservoir shown at 22.052-5, Jeep PN 961129. This is a mid-60s part number, and appears to have been deleted for the 1974 model year. It may have been the red plastic bag that hangs from the inner fender - not sure. Jeep used a bag reservoir for some models in that era. Ford used a washer bag too, which may be a suitable substitute. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=wi ... &FORM=IGRE You would have a bracket on the inner fender with two hooks that hang the bag from the top corners.
Looks like the 2-speed motor for those years has the washer pump as part of the motor. The reservoir is just a reservoir, with no pump. Take a close look at your wiper motor. There was also a single-speed motor with no washer, but that appears to have ended with the 1972 production. The nozzles are in the fresh air vent in front of the windshield.
You can test the washer with a piece of hose into a jug or whatever. If you prefer, you can buy a universal rigid plastic reservoir and locate it under the hood somewhere. I think I have an original tank from my 79 chief that needs a pump. The pump is built into the bottom. It has a crack on the top surface that can be glued. Doesn't leak. You can have it for the shipping cost.

I got mine from amazon and it was a poor fit, looked like the oem, but a bit too narrow to tightly fit the opening and the gasket... so it was leaking...
I went the cheapo way, sealed the hole, and used an external pump with a extra hole on top of the washer tank with grommet
and repeat for the outside
