Looking for some inputs on mirrors. Will weld up the OEM holes on both doors this weekend as no suitable replacements located. Same time would add plates on back side of door panel for new mounts. I have the following type mirrors available:
For a J-Truck, I would lean naturally to the brute looking tripod mounted 'West Coast' style.
For a mid to late 80s GW, the OEM power mirror though small would be my choice.
Also considered are the 70s Ford style high and low mount, some called these bronco mirrors.
I also had on hand a Scott Drake Ford 67-68 Ford Mustang set that looks very similar to what came (apparently OEM) on my 77 Chief, but the mount / post part is not tall enough and unless you mount way high on door, are small, and can't see much.
Not considering the billet mounts as the billet looks doesn't fit the OEM style I'm going for. The Dodge mirrors themselves do, but not the mount.
So for a 1977 Chief that will have the OEM look when done, would you choose (1) West Coast style; (2) 80s GW power mirrors; (3) 70s Ford bronco style or (4) something else ?

Well, small item but worth noting; tripod and west coast are not the same thing. West coast mirrors are "big rig" style mirrors, with mounts above and below the window. Typically, the mounts telescope so the mirrors can be further out from the cab when towing.
Honestly for "stockish" I'd go with option #4 as late 80s GM mirrors using Ross' mirror mounts (even though he gave in to Photobucket and paid their ransom )
As you can see, they fit nice with the aesthetics while providing a more usable mirror than the factory options.

That's not bad, thanks. The mirror itself fits perfect for me (Dodge similar), I'm just nervous about the billet mount itself, the sharp corners on the base mount. I'm being picky, but trying to fit within Jeep original design. I know a guy ... could round the corners, even chrome it to give it more 70s style.

Point that may interest only me, the only holes in the doors have different spacing for the driver's and passenger doors (OEM paint, no extra holes) and neither spacing matches up to what Ross has for his mounts. So I'm welding and adding support regardless, just shows how little consistency there was in the "OEM" mirrors.

Totally. I'm not for positive but I think the driver wagon mirror is mounted further forward than the passenger mirror.
Ross' mounts are plain aluminum and could be rounded, bullnosed, and polished with most the same tools you'd use on wood (router, sander, rasp, etc). If you contact him, I'm sure he'd even do it for you for a reasonable fee.

'84 GW with Nissan SD33T, early Chev NV4500, 300, narrowed Ford reverse 44, narrowed Ford 60, SOA/reversed shackle in fornt, lowered mount/flipped shackle in rear.

The link above is what I had on the driver's side. The earlier link you referenced was close but not exact to the passenger side. It's possible someone added the passenger side at the dealer or themselves. But there are only one set of holes in the door and it's OEM paint.

Thanks all for the input. My gut is now to go with Ross' mounts, albeit I may round off the 45 deg cuts and chrome them, and go with the Dodge mirrors in chrome. They are big enough to be useful and have enough of a 70s feel for me.
