Amsoil Z-ROD Synthetic motor oil is a high-zinc formulation specially designed to prevent wear on flat tappet camshafts. API SL SJ . I have tried many brands all with Zinc .. This oil works good in my engine better than other high end brands . AMSOIL IS MY BRAND.....
Do they make a D-Rod version? You know, for Diesels.
At some point I'm gonna need oil for my 70's era flat tappet Diesel.

Thank you for this. So many people think I'm crazy when I post this. They go all defensive and say I'm just going to ruin my motor by not adding a high zinc formula.... I've ran regular dino oil in my 283 since it was rebuilt 20+ years ago. No issues. Zinc is helpful. As is Phosphorus. Just too much can be very detrimental. And the cam failures were pretty much traced back to crappy products.

Hate to break it to you guys but motor oil is regulated by the Gov to be limited to certain amounts of zinc... Even Diesel oil has been cut down in zinc levels.
Plus you dont wanna put diesel oil in your 360 with an iron crank and block.. diesel oil additives can eat up iron they have more calcium then motor oil..
Your best bet is to buy the oil you want.. Then get some ZDDP from rislone.. Non of the oil today has alot of zinc for flat tappet hydro cams... They dont want you to ruin your catalytic convertor.. because thats more important then wearing out your engine lol

So how long until the block in my Dodge is eaten up? Been running Diesel oil in it for 20 years.
Cummins isn't using stainless for engine blocks are they?
