need help identifying squeak/squeal noise

Post by cjarcher »

The GW I am driving is making a loud squeal when in motion. It continues to squeal even when the brakes are applied. It can be heard outside the vehicle.I greased the zerks, thinking maybe it is a dry u-joint. May be a wheel bearing, but bad wheel bearings have always sounded more grating than squealing to me. Any ideas?

Has any work been done to the brakes or are the pads older? Could be time for a new set of pads (they are made to squeal when it goes close to their end of life).

Jack it up and spin the wheels by hand.
