1972 J-4500 transfer case shifter

Post by tombayerle »

hello wondering what it takes to get my shifter working on my 72 Jeep truck. I heard there were some fingers in that little remote box above the case? I can't get it into 4 Low.

Thanks

First thing to do is take it apart, clean, lubricate and reassemble. Remove the decades of hardened grease and dirt. There is a drawing of the shifter parts in the TSM https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 08&jsn=376

You can look at the '74 TSM for this, but it would be better to have the one for your year. http://oljeep.com/edge_74_tsm.html Figure 8-15.

Way more about the shifter and shifting in the TSM than we could cover here.
