J Truck Rear Window Sizes, Two Different "Big Windows"?

I have a rear slider for my '77 J10 that my installer refuses to install, saying it is going to fall out if he puts it in... It is the "TSW1700T - CRL Duo-Vent Four Panel Slider with Dark Gray Glass for 1967-1988 Jeep J10 and J20 Cab" made by CR Laurence, I got it from Amazon: http://a.co/d/8tQrDnS

I think the problem really is the reproduction gasket that came from Team Grand Wagoneer is poorly made and way too big so when the installer put the gasket on the window there were inches of extra room! The installer got on his computer though and then said something about listings for big windows up to '74 and then '75 and up? I know of course the older small window is very different, but that ended in the mid 60's and there is no way to mistake that for a big window. I have never heard of two different "big windows" in the J trucks, I thought they were the same in all of them. I have also pretty much confirmed this with Todd at Jeepglass.com who know their stuff very well when it comes to Jeeps and windows.

The dimensions of the sliding window I got from Amazon exactly match what CR Laurence website says is the one for my application so I know I didn't get a misboxed one. "Width 53-1/4", Height 15-3/8" and it is supposed to fit into the trucks using the same as stock glass gasket (if you don't buy crappy repops). I think I might just have a gunshy installer. I told him to go for it anyway and pull the old window then we would for sure see, but he didn't want to touch it, I can't really blame him.

I just know it's gotta be that dang gasket is crap and too big, and scared the installer...

Anyone have any input?

I have always assumed that there was only one big window. But, I have never broken out a tape measure and measured the differences. I don't have access to an older truck, but maybe somebody else here does and we can get some comparisons going.

Thanks, I am pretty sure that is the case. I'll probably just end up going to another place instead of using my longtime glass guy that works for peanuts... I might just try it myself, just don't want to break the original rear window, but if I do it isn't a huge deal.

Has anyone else had any experience with these reproduction rear window gaskets from Team Grand Wagoneer? That seems like where the problem is, it's too big.

Weather stripping as a whole has not been great for FSJ's. It often does not fit well. Especially the door seals.

On my 71 Gladiator

As you see it installed and all measurements from outside

The rubber seal measured horizontally at the very bottom... end to end of rubber is 54 inches

The rubber seal measured horizontally all the way at the top ... end to end of rubber is 48 inches

The rubber seal measured vertically at each end of the window... top to bottom of rubber is 16 inches

The rubber seal measured vertically at center of the window... top to bottom of rubber is 16 1/2 inches

The Window frame measured horizontally at the very bottom... end to end of exposed frame is 52 1/2 inches

The Window frame measured horizontally at the top just before the curve... end to end of exposed frame is 47 1/2 inches

The Window frame measured vertically at each end of the window... top to bottom of exposed frame is 14 inches

The Window frame measured vertically at center of the window... top to bottom of exposed window frame is 14 1/2 inches

This truck originally had stationary glass. I found this window NOS a few years ago. It was made in the early 70s.

I used the original rubber seal so I can't help with a recommendation.

I have the original stationary glass in the box that this slider window came in. The dimensions of this slider window is marked on the box (I will take picture)... and I will get an exact measurement of the stationary glass and add them to this post.

Not sure who this vendor is... but he does seem to indicate that the seals are different for some late model J Trucks...

Rear window seal fits Jeep J Series Trucks 67-88. This seal only fit the years stated. Does not fit the earlier or the tail end of the J series trucks. Fits sliding windows or one piece glass. New replacement parts.

There are no J-trucks after 1988, and likely none built after 1987 in reality (just sold as '88s). He is likely referring to the Comanche, which a lot of people seem to confuse with the J-series.

Thanks guys, the pics and dimensions posted by 1971J4000 seem to pretty much look like mine. I have been working 12 hour days so no time to break out and measure it, but just first glance of mine from the back it seems the same. I can't imagine there are two different ones, that would make very little sense. The gasket has to be just crap and too big.

The stationary glass that we replaced with the slider

Bottom width 53 3/8"

Top width (at widest point just before the curve 47 1/2")

The slider is the model 515.

All large window Jeeps have the same dimensions. I'd say the problem is between the aftermarket sliding window and the after market gasket.
