I think ima habe to take my caps off and paint them as well... I put on the old Jeep V8 360 70s emblems on my fenders that i bought from ebay abd painted thrm using a tint tiny ass brush from a hobby shop.. Using enamle paint from a spray cab that i sprayed into cups.. Just dipped the brush and let the paint roll itself on.. Never thought about doing the caps though.

Looks good

Speaking from experience it's much easier to install th dash in this order. 1. Install the interior harness and Fuze box. 2. Install the dash itself. No cluster, no ac vents. Just the dash(dash, glove box and wood, and dash pad). 3. Run the wiring through the dash and hook everything up. 4. Lastly install the ac unit and final bits of trim.

Okay, got a new timing cover and the inside looked like this. Returned it, and new one looks the same. Is this normal?

It's my 1st timing cover, but surprised there are so many cracks. Do you sand those out? Leave them? Appreciate the input.

IIRC mine looked the same, check the inside of the oil pump for flaws.
Where did you get it?

Letank - It's the Dorman product, don't have the product number off hand. Did you just install it or sand it or anything? I'm out of my element on this one.

I'll disconnect the oil pump this weekend and see if it connects. Bought an oil pump rebuild kit, that "seems" straight forward.

Ive seen flaws like that on stock parts... NOT quite as excessive but yea.

To me it looks like casting imperfections. Get a grinder and polish the metal If they go away it isnt cracks but cast imperfections. Which wont cause any issues.

I would return that peice anyway.. Pic 2 on the top right the Knot area has a deep crevice crack which looks ALOT like a hot tear to me.. Hot tear is a type of casting imperfection when the metal is hot and cools down and is caused by poor casting.

Hot tears is basically the metal pulling itself apart like playdough when it cools down.. I wouldnt settle for a cast imperfection like that as it can be internal and cause fracturing

Well, engine is 95% back together and tried to install over the weekend. May have to use the exhaust manifold bolts as otherwise the bolts and chain hit the fire wall. Any tips on where to bolt it to the crane?

Finalized my steering wheel restoration as well. Took hours and hours, but happy with it. As others have noted, re-sewing it via an aftermarket kit may have been faster.Image

Steering wheel looks GREAT!!!

For putting the engine in, I had luck removing the hood as letank said, and bolted it to the front of a head, and the rear of the other head for balance. There was enough clearance to the firewall for me to do this.

Thanks! It was a process.

Finished my dash... guessing 100+ hours into this thing... followed the Polyvance method (they have a video, written process, all the products to work in tandem, and I called them and was able to talk to them about what might work best). This was just what I chose, am sure there other great solutions too.

My take, if at all possible, pay someone else to do it! Ha

Left, starting texture, right final texture (you can go courser or smoother), final but still wet. Less glossy once dried.Image

Hi All - could really use some collective wisdom... reinstalled the engine to where it's loosely on the mounts and bolted to the transmission. Went to put in the torque plate bolts, and I had marked the plates (gold lines by the hole) so I could match it up. Problem is when the engine rotates, both plates rotate.

Any ideas? Appreciate the wisdom!Image

Appears the torque plate and flex plate are binding.... any ideas on why or how to fix?

Since the alignment holes were secured, then bolts added etc, I'm confused...

Good news... engine is in! To your point, not sure what the lesson is. Just kind of have to do it until it fits.

Moving to the interior, when the dashboard was removed, there was this black mass next to the blower on the passenger side. Any ideas on what that is or what it's doing? Is it stock?

Looks like the insulation goo they put on the AC lines downstream of the expansion valve to prevent condensation on the line that would then drip on the carpet.

Restored the rims, very pleased. Still need to be clear coated, but need to let it cure 1st.

For reference on materials used (not endorsing, just what I used in case it helps others), Duplicolor Primer followed by VHT wheel paint. VHT has a really long cure time, but I thought the color match was best and I'm not in a rush.

Parts of the rims have dust pretty well engrained giving it a brown tint up close. Not sure how to remove that with impacting the rim. Can I clear coat over that? Or should I just clear coat the new paint?Image
