Question/ Help on reinstalling manifold to exhaust

I have a 1973 Jeep Wagoneer AMC 360

I replaced the manifold with new stock manifolds.

My question, I am ready to reinstall the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipes. I have eliminated the Exhaust Manifold Damper on the driverside as it was wore out and not working. New carburetor doesn't need it.

What is the best way to make this connection without the Exhaust Manifold Damper?
What type of exhaust gasket? Donut style?

Years ago I did this on a 79 Honcho. I made a spacer the same size as the damper (3/4 or 7/8 I can't remember which) and used the original gaskets called out for it. which was a flat gasket like a manifold gasket between the spacer and the manifold and a donut between the pipe and the spacer.

Take the original damper, remove the flap, fill the holes with bolts or the original flap shaft and assemble with the flapless damper.

if it was like the one on my honcho it was cracked anyways and if I remember right it was made out of something un weldable.
