Willwood Disc Brake Calipers

Post by Fire1 »

G'day FSJ network. I'm in the preliminary stages of restoring a 1982 4 door Cherokee assembled in the Brisbane, Australia Jeep plant. One of the first orders or business is a decent set of brakes and tires. I'm looking at the Willwood D52 dual piston Calipers which are advertised as a bolt on replacement. For tyres and rims and was thinking about the 15 or 16 " Micky Thompson Classic III's and will install a 2" lift. So, is the Willwood kit really a bolt on replacement and will 15" rims clear the caliper or do I have to go to the 16's. There is a benefit of 16" rims in Australia as the tire choices for 15" rims are limited. I would like 265/75 tires which in a 16" rim equate to 31.5/10.5" or 30.5/10.5 on a 15" rim. The problem with 16" rim is its only 8" wide and the 15" rim is 10" wide (no 16x10, 3.6 listed). Is a 10.5" tire on an 8" rim acceptable? The back spacing for both the 15x10 and 16x8 Micky T's 15x10 is 3.6".

I've just replaced the rear main seal, PS and alt belts and the water pump, hoses and exhaust collector seals are next. Then wheel bearings, rear brakes, ball joints, 2" lift springs (not ordered yet) and a new paint job. The 360 runs well and seems in good order with 84,000 original miles and solid high oil pressure. The body is rust free (inland car) and the carb is a newish 2300 Holley and has a new HEI from summit, both installed by the PO. The grill is the black plastic muscle type and its cracked so I will probably change that to a Rhino, Razor or something shiny. If I can get the ol' girl in good order I will throw some surfboards on the rack and take her for quick spin around Australia, approximately 15,000km with the occasional detour.
