stock evaporator core

Post by TeaBag »

I have stock ac on my 1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and I need to replace the evaporator core. None of the aftermarket ones I have found online will fit in the box even though they say they will.

Has anyone had any luck finding the correct evaporator core?

Can you provide a picture of the one you pulled out?

There is a Rock Auto link from rainman on this thread that may be helpful.

I could not find anything on the standard forum search using "evaporator" but found this using the new Google Search feature that Stuka installed at the top of the Advanced Search window a few days ago.

So the one shown in the photo of the link you sent me is identical to the original one I removed. All the auto parts stores including rock auto and TGW list the core I bought, as being the correct core. It is not correct and will not fit.

So the question is-did the one used in the previous thred fit?

Thats the one I bought that does NOT fit. Not only are the dimensions wrong, those are o ring connectors and the OEM has flare fittings.

Maybe the evap unit have is from an earlier model then. Here's the earlier one. I know I have a unit from a 78 in my 79.

Yeah-I hope that's the case-cause that's the only other one I can find that resembles the original.

What's weird is, I have a 1991 final edition, how could I have the "old style" evaporator?

Maybe someone ripped out the A/C, then that person or someone else replaced it with an earlier model. They aren't that different.

FYI - I was at Napa on Monday. They show TEM 288307 but it doesn't have flare fittings.
