Dana 300 shift rail positions?

Post by tedlovesjeeps71 »

I have a side bar question about a Dana 300. I have one in my scrambler that was supposed to get twin sticks. I haven't had time to pull it apart and grind the shift rails yet so for now it just has to let me move the Jeep around.
Does anyone know which rod controls high/low vs 2wd/4wd? And how do I position them to put it in 2 high? Feels like it's in 2 or 4 low right now as I can easily start in 4th gear (nv4500).
Do both rods have to be all the way in? One all the way in and one just one "click" out? Which one??

I recall it's like the 20, and one rail controls each axle, ie LO-N-HI. I can't look here at work, but there is an '82 TSM on the Tom Collins site that will cover the 300. You should be able to read the shift rod positions from there. http://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html
