courtesy and plate lights

Post by merrill77 »

Couple of questions on lights...

1) Is this a stock ceiling light for a 77?

If so, how do you get the cover off? I pulled a little. It doesn't want to slide in any direction.

2) This is the license plate light on my 77. Does it come apart for changing the bulb? It looks like there is a little 194 bulb in there, but I can't get it open. It is in pretty bad shape...anyone know where I can get a new replacement?

3) The covers for the courtesy lights under the dash on driver and passenger sides are seriously browned. Is there a source for a decent replacement for these?

TIA!

ceiling light was stock in 74, you squeeze in the middle of the clear lense, not the bezel, the middle of the short length, probably using a plastic spudger would ease the tension.
as for the license plate light it is a sealed unit, bjs has them. Somebody to desconstruct one to replace the light bulb...

Thanks - it came off without a fight :) For future reference it takes a #212 "festoon" bulb.

The license plate light can be separated at the seam with a knife. The old bulb cut out and a new 194 bulb soldered into the wiring and hot glued into place. Then hot glue the housing back together and it's a good as new

Fun fact, YJ wrangler hard tops have the same dome light and there is a clear cover available. Sheds a little more interior light than the white cover does. Just something i stumbled upon recently i though i would share
