AMC 327 no spark. MSD 6AL trouble?

Post by Grand_Wag_85 »

My Gladiator has been parked since July or August and trying to get it running. Ignition system consists of the stock distributor with points triggering an MSD 6AL box which fires the coil. Everything is new and the truck ran when parked, then again they all do! The MSD is getting power and there is 12V at the + terminal when the ignition is on so it seems that the MSD is getting juice. The points are clean(flawless) and we have tried to jump 12V from the + on the battery to the + on the coil to trick it into running.

Is there anything to check with the MSD? I've never owned one before.

Thanks!

Check the voltage to the MSD box with the starter engaged, then make sure the box has good ground all the way back to the battery.
Electronic ignitions that need 12V+ wont work with less. I've never gone the MSD route, too many complaints about the boxes dying
after two years. I can get that kind of unreliability from offshore HEI modules for a lot less $$$.
