Rad for a 6 cyl on a 360

Post by Hendo2.5 »

I just picked up a parts truck and am tearing it down. It's an 85 j10 with a 258. It has a brand new rad that I would like to use for my project truck with a 360. Would the rad out if the 258 work or would it be insufficient for the v8? Thanks

Oh man, I just need the drivers side sway bar plate! Wish you were getting rid of those. Broke that mounting stud off when removing the sway bar for the suspension install.

There isint much like that that is salvageable. The suspension has the structural integrity of a corn flake.

On BJ's site they are different specs. 2 core for 6 cyl vs 3 core for 8. So cooling capability would be reduced. (Important on v8s in these things)

Bottom outlet on the v8 radiator looks angled upward vs straight on the 6 cyl.

You could always try and see. I'd put a known good temp gauge on it and watch it for a few rides. Especially when it is idling, hot in traffic.

I just looked and it's a 2 core. The v8 was already overheating when i pulled the old rad do I guess it's not worth it

Too small, both core size and width (narrower than the V8).

The whole core support is different between an i6 and a V8. So regardless of how many core radiator it has, it won't bolt up.
