So after being disappointed by the last seller backing out after taking my deposit, I was able to find another. Funny thing is a similar thing happened with this one only it was the buyer that backed out and put it back on the market.
1977 Chief. Great shape inside. No interior rust. Fenders need some love. This is going to be my youngest daughters driver. She loves it. All the neighborhood kids came by to help clean it.

[*]Here are a few photos of the day we picked it up and the next day when my daughter got to start the cleaning and working on it. She is so happy and excited.

interesting spot for the charcoal canister....
and for the watch list, you have the prestolite distributor, nicknamed the presto no lite as in "no ignition"... time for a duraspark swap, and do not forget the ammeter bypass...

Letank, i noticed in some other photo, that the canister is located farther back and higher on the fender well. As for the distributor, I know of the issues with Prestolite, as I have been lurking and learning here for some time. I just was not sure which one this was. Thanks for the heads up. I am leaning towards HEI. What are the pros and cons of HEI vs Dusaspark?
Ammeter bypass is a must and high on the list.

I think it is so awesome that she is excited about one of our rigs. It's good to know that young folks can have some fun with them. The smile on her face is an inspiration! It makes me want to go work on mine too! Congratulations. I hope you have fun with it, you know, in between the frustrating times.
Thank you guys. I will try to get her to join. But for now I just relay all that is posted on here.
Merrill, the ammeter bypass from what i have read is the disabling of the ammeter to prevent electrical damage or fires. The ammeter seems to be a weak link in the electrical system. If you search it on here you will find quite a bit of info on it. I believe there is also a sticky about it.

The original wiring was fine when it was new and with the original alternator. An easy fix for the time being is to put both wires on the same post of the ammeter, bypassing the ammeter. You can reach it easily if you remove the glove box.

I know grand wagoneers catch fire too.. something to do with the heater motor and the oil pressure and that thing that automaticly runs idle on the carb.. Aparently none are fused and they just use a fusible link.. which well smolders and catchs fire.
Seen 3 Grands like this.. I inline fused those three wires under the hood.. in fact one was boiled already frim insulation that pealed away and was sparking against the metal fuel line.. yea you heard me...

Looks like a pretty solid Jeep. I don't think I have seen a charcoal canister on the driver side. All the ones I have owned have had it on the passenger side.
Like others said, do the ammeter bypass. And, do rely on it having hubs for having a part time kit. We have seen people put locking hubs into non-part time Jeeps before.
Stuka, I do not understand what you mean regarding trusting it having part time hubs. I am new to this. Can you clarify for me.
Much appreciated. Thanks

The danger is that you have a full-time transfer case and someone has installed locking hubs. Running the Jeep in full-time mode with the hubs unlocked will damage the transfer case. You should either remove the hubs or know that your Jeep has been converted to part time. Don't assume the conversion from the hubs.
