Spindle torque setting

Post by Hendo2.5 »

Does anyone know how many foot pounds the 6 nuts that hold the spindle to the axle are supposed to be torqued to?

If they are 3/8" studs, its 40-50ft lbs. Later axles had 7/16 studs and had a different torque, I think it was 65.

I agree on 40-50. I googled it once and found conflicting reports, and decided to go with 90. That was a mistake! I stripped three studs before I quit and looked up the spec in my TSM. I should also mention those studs are not commonly available. Now the 74 has grade 8 bolts with the heads ground down a wee-bit as studs on the drivers side; used green loctite to hold them in the stud bores and to my surprise it worked!
