PCV hose

Post by ferrum »

I need to get new PCV hose for my Cherokee. What is the recommended hose for this? I rather not get one from O'Reilly's as my new to me vacuum line I got from them about 3 years ago to replace my aging lines are starting to crack. I would appreciate the info.

The PCV is typically just fuel line. Just make sure its fuel line that is safe for use with alcohol (as most states use it in the fuel during at least winter months).

For vacuum line, there is definitely cheap stuff and good stuff. The lines I currently have came from Napa, but no clue if they are better or different than o'rielly.

IIRC the PCV hose is 3/8" on my '82. It's a molded hose, but I made an equivalent shape from plumbing elbows and plain straight fuel hose. 3/8" fuel hose is available everywhere.

The breather hose is 1/2" fuel line. It's available online many places, but usually at 25' length minimum. Not many parts stores will have this by the foot. There are some sellers on eBay that sell by the foot. Don't let the parts store sell you heater hose, since it will swell and come apart when exposed to oil.

Gates or Dayco hose is good. If you want something really special, use EFI hose or some of the (expensive) fleet-rated hose. I like silicone hose for vacuum tubing.

Thanks for the info. I’m looking into getting some HPS silicone vacuum hoses. Never thought to use fuel hose for PCV.

Napa has red flexible fuel hose that works well for the pcv. It doesn't kink like the normal black hose does so you can run it better. It's make by gates

AZ had both 3/8” & 1/2” emissions hose in their system.
Got it same day 4 me, just had ask them.
NAPA had it, but stupid $$/per foot.

Same deal with PS and trans cooler hose, AZ ordered it, way better price than online or NAPA.
