Can some of you folks post a pic of cross members and the exact year that you know for a fact they came from? Just pics with the known year. We can organize the pics in a usable manner later. No “I thinks” just the facts.
Thanks: Jim
To my knowledge, 74-91 crossmembers are nearly identical. The only difference is where some holes for trans mounts are. But you can swap them between those years. The frame side mounts did not change.
Look here and there are some pictures of the original cross member from my 1982 J20 and a replacement I bought. I don't know the exact year for the replacement - the seller in Nebraska said it would fit 1980-84. The replacement was identical to the original but without the cracks and booger welds. http://www.fsjnetwork.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10473
I can post some part numbers later if you want. There is a '80-86 parts book online at the the Tom COllins site if you want to pick some additional numbers. IIRC it confirms that the early 80s part does not change.

Blockchain the vote.
I have parts manuals all the way back into the 40’s. Real pics are always better from unmolested original rigs even if they are crashed or rust buckets. Can you post the pic in this thread? I would like to try to add dates to the pics. Is the plate bolted on yours the way it came from the factory?
