So the rear spring hanger on the driver side of my truck rusted off, that was an exciting experience. The passenger side was not far behind, either. Not wanting to rebuild them myself, I started looking around for an off-the-shelf bolt on hanger. I tried some off a 90s F150, but the springs on those sit out away from the frame almost double the distance ours do. Eventually I ended up speaking to Bob over at ATS. Bob was great; we went over measurements, he sent me some pics of different hangers he had, and eventually we found some that sounded like a good fit. He wasn't 100% sure what they were off of, but he thought they were from a Bronco 2. Fast forward to last weekend when I had time to start working:
The remnants of the original hanger, I ended up cutting off the bit left on the frame on both sides and cleaning up the frame as best I could:
My old shackles were toast, these came with the F150 hangers I ended up not using. They're a little bit taller than the original ones, but I moved the replacement hangers down as much as I could to make up the difference:
The rest are the new shackle bolted on. I threw a piece of 11ga steel on the inside of the frame to help with reinforcement a bit. I tried to weld it in, but there's so much corrosion there it didn't work all that well. This is really just a band-aid for me, need to keep the truck rolling for my next move, then I can address the frame more permanently:
I am pretty happy with the results. The install was not terribly difficult, but definitely would've been easier with the bed out of the way.
