Window regulator replacement

Post by Rinkle_Stinkle »

I’ve got the Haynes manual and I’m preparing to begin the door window and lock restoration on my jeep.

In the instructions is says “WARNING the regulator arms are under pressure and can cause serious injury if the motor is removed without locking the sector gear.”

First off if you have a warning like that then maybe show a pic?

Second... what is this sector gear and when what how should I secure it?

Third.... any suggestions on replacing window motor, flex track and window track felts?

that is only for the tailgate window motor.
to remove that one it's easier to just pull whole regulator w/ motor attached IMHO.
can then clean all old grease off and relube the regulator without making a mess inside gate.

doors = no danger, just unbolt regulator/motor assembly and remove.

Ok that’s good to know!

And just so im on the same page, with the doors you have to remove window and take full assembly out or can you just replace motor without taking the full assembly out?

It is much easier to remove door window regulator with motor attached.
Removing just motor is a stellar pita

so I have another question. My window felts are all cracked and well... toast...

I am looking to purchase new motors, flex tracks and channel felts for all windows except the tail gate (for now).

I'm looking at Team Grand Wagoneer to get the parts. I found the complete front and rear door window glass channel set but I don't believe it actually the full set.
here is the link to the parts:
https://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/compl ... 1963-1991/

do I also need to order the "vent assembly division bar glass run seal set" for front?
same thing with rear?
here is a link to those parts:

Rear: https://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com/rear- ... 1963-1991/

Called the company and found out that yes, they do need to be purchased to complete the entire set as the felts for that bar come preassembled and need to be purchase separately. Just incase anyone ever needs to know.

Most of the time the motors don't need to be replaced. Clean up the switches, check to see it's got full power, and clean up and lube the tracks, and fix or replace felts if they're shot and it runs like new again. If it's just running slow then things are probably bound up, gunked up, or not enough power.

Get the door felt puller tool thing too if your doing all 4 doors and tailgate later if you got the ten bucks.
