Choke electric

Post by Bruduf »

I have a 1984 J10 360 auto trans. I fixed the electric choke heater and adjusted as the manual said but I am curious if the heater gets a continuous 12 volts even after the choke has fully opened. I did trace the power wire for the choke heater down to the oil pressure switch thanks

Electric chokes take a constant 12v supply anytime the key is in run position. the solenoid is an easy place to take power from if you need it .

The oil sender wire won't work . if it does you have a problem in your wiring.

These Jeeps typically have an oil pressure switch in the choke circuit that cuts power to the choke if the engine is not running. This is a different switch from the oil pressure sender, though they connect to the oil galleries in the same place. These chokes are also typically thermoelectric and require hot air from the manfold as well as electricity. Both the electrical and hot air part must work for them to function correctly.

Thanks the power wire does come from a switch on the oil pressure I was just curious is it stayed on all the time. Also need to unplug the mung the previous owner plumed up the hot air supply from the manifold. I cleaned up the ground contacts on the electric heat and it now pulls the choke off. Thanks for your help
