I guess it all depends on if your willing to pay what ever the consequences are for swapping vins if your caught (probably a very slim chance) and how things like that are inspected/enforced in your area.
I know someone that had a 1980 Chevy K20 titled with the VIN from a 77 K30 crew cab dually. Pretty obvious the tag and truck didn't belong to each other and he never had an issue.
