Resolved.... the oil pump shaft ears where spread a touch... Squeezed a little bit by channel locks and put back together... No she's all done ready to go in, as soon as I get more money for engine and trans mounts.

I am not going to stereotype, assume or even care. But I am willing to guess that this forum isn't the best place for Ambergc3 to market.

Motherf*****g flex plate is different ever so slightly. Gotta pull the sonb**** back out.

Edit.. so for those of you who don't know... 88-91 flexplate are different from 80-87 for the 727 transmission

Well the engin.and trans are together
Now to pull the trans xmember to drop the exhaust to get the butterfly valve in and get the manifold stud out of the exhaust pipe...

Sooo frustrated if it's not one thing it's another...

The brand new starter went bad , internal short maybe caused by by something els electrical... went for it's first start up, when I turned ignition to on position I without trying to crank it I herd a loud pop and had smoke come from a secondary on the edelbrock 1406 carb.. scratched my head and searched wires I found nothing causing a short... I tried again no pop no smoke no fire .... so I cranked i heard the solenoid clunk but nothing happend... I checked starter wire, found no issues... tapped starter with hammer then tried again, and nothing.... pulled the starter cable from solenoid took it directly to battery *fire works*... closed up shop for the night.

Feel free to share your thoughts.

Double check your plug wire orientation.

Move your timing far enough each direction to see if it gets better or worse.

Since you were having electrical issues the ignition is where I'd look first. it could have fried something.

Just to be sure, I pulled the timing cover again to verify the timing was set up right... cam gear is at 6oclock and crank is at 12oclock... with all the blow back and backfiring... is there a chance if got a cam that was ground wrong?

The rv cam is house brand Napa.

Not really. it would have to be off a mile and that's just not going to happen.

Did you put the plug wires on in the correct rotation ?

Is the rotor on #1 when #1 is at TDC compression ? are you sure you're not on the exhaust stroke ?

Sometimes it's the simple things that are easy to miss. I've done it .

You can do that all day long and still be firing on the exhaust TDC stroke. BTDT.
:- )

Did you verify that you have compression as the #1 cylinder comes up to TDC?

Not trying to belittle you or your skills, just making sure all our bases are covered before you pull your hair out or start throwing heavy objects at your Jeep!

Yes I'm on compression stroke. Verified by placing thumb over spark plug hole and cranking engine... it's good to have a 7ft wingspan I can jump solenoid and hold thumb over spark plug hole at the same time.

I know enough to get me in trouble.... and now I'm in troubleImage

If your timing bosses are lined up then it almost has to be electrical.

The only internal issue I can imagine is if you have valves stuck open , I don't know how that could be .

90% of the time when everything looks right and it still won't work it's something simple .
