Bypass Dash Tailgate Glass Switch?

Post by 5thJeep »

My dash switch for my tailgate window has gone bad - and yes, I've isolated it to just this switch. Have y'all bypassed this switch completely? If so, am I right to assume it's just a matter of removing the switch a patching the wires together?

I'd love to get it working from the tailgate key until I can get a new dash switch installed but that may be a while because my Jeep budget (and my dinner budget for that matter) just left with a new T-case.

At this point you have nothing to lose. On my 73 javelin AMX I used to take the switches apart when they stopped functioning. At that time the switches were not available anywhere. After taking the switch apart I would simply clean the contacts and reassemble and it would be good for another four or five years. One word of advice is to work in a clean area because sometimes when you take the switch apart there will be pieces that will fly away. What I found was let the contacts in the switches we're always at issue and just needed the corrosion cleaned off. Best of luck.

you can also look up serehill (user name) and get one of his kits, I was in the same boat, I finally gave in and got his kit and have been trouble free ever since then.
I do like the idea of taking switches apart in a box, I will have to remember to do that next time.

We'll, finally took the time to remove the switch in hopes of cleaning it. Come to find out, it's all riveted together. Not a screw in sight.

So who knows a replacement option for the in days tailgate switch?

Serehill passed away and I'm not sure if his friends or family are continuing his business...

Get a momentary dtdp switch and wire it up like I showed in this thread.

Look closer with a precision screwdriver.

Drill out the rivets and take the switch apart. You'll probably find that there's a little plastic piece that's broke. No fixing that
