Smoothest Shocks for stock ride height

Post by montanablueSJ »

I saw another post about new shocks, but I'm looking for the smoothest ride possible. What shocks should I go with to get this? I have a stock ride height '81 cherokee with stock leafs and factory original shocks (which are done) so time to upgrade. Can anybody recommend some "Cadillac-like" shock absorbers?

Best bet is adjustable, so you can dial them in.

Thanks for the input guys!
I believe shocks are the same unit front and rear, correct?
But I still see different part numbers sometimes, is that right or have manufactures made a difference in spring rate or something for the front versus the rear?

Might be leaning towards Gabriel ultras because of availability and price. For the Bilsteins, which model is the smooth one?

They are the same part # f&r. I've run a good amount of different shocks on various vehicles over the years and can simply say the ones on my waggy now are the most comfortable. 5100 series I believe is correct. Find em on sale and you'll be happy.

Bilsteins are my favorite also, but I wouldn't call them the smoothest shock. They are smooth over rough terrain, but their low speed valving makes them a little stiff on smooth terrain. But I like that, keeps the body roll down. I also run the 5100 series Bilsteins.
